Group trip planner

Plan a group trip everyone actually goes on.

One shared itinerary, a real headcount and a running tab. Hoku turns "we should totally do this" into dates, a headcount and a plan your whole group can see.

The problem

Group trips die in the group chat.

You know the pattern. Someone floats a bachelorette weekend in Nashville or a reunion in Lisbon. Twenty people react with a fire emoji. Then the thread turns into a swamp: three competing date polls, a Google Sheet nobody updates, a screenshot of a hotel that sold out yesterday, and one person quietly doing all the work while asking "so is everyone in or not?" for the fourth time.

The trip does not fail because people stopped wanting to go. It fails because nobody can see the state of the plan. Who has committed. What is booked. What each person owes. When that information lives in a scrolling chat, it goes stale within hours, and the organiser becomes a human database.

Hoku is built for exactly this moment. It gives the group one place where the plan, the headcount and the money are always current, and it lets everyone contribute instead of one person carrying the whole thing.

How it works

Four steps from "we should" to "we're going".

Invite everyone with one link

Create the trip, set a destination and rough dates, and share the link in the chat you already have. It opens a preview of the trip, so people know what they are joining before they sign up. Works on iPhone, Android and any browser.

Everyone says "I'm in"

Each member RSVPs to the trip: in, maybe or can't go. You see a real headcount instead of a pile of thumbs-up emoji, and the people who are on the fence get a gentle nudge rather than a public call-out.

Build the plan together, vote with reactions

Anyone can add a restaurant, a hike or a show to a specific day. Members react and comment on each activity, so the group can pick between the rooftop bar and the wine tour without another poll. Hoku's Discover tab suggests tours, sights and restaurants for your destination, and on Premium Trip Genie can draft a starter itinerary to argue with.

Split costs and settle up

Log the Airbnb, the rental car and the group dinner as you go. Hoku splits each cost among the people it was for, keeps a running balance per person and shows the fewest payments that clear everything. No spreadsheet, no "I'll figure it out after".

What's in the box

Everything a group trip needs, in one thread-free place.

📅

Shared day-by-day itinerary

Up to 100 members editing one plan, with times, addresses and notes on each activity. Change it on your phone and it changes for everyone.

✅

Who's in

One RSVP per trip: in, maybe or can't go. Know how many are coming before you book the house, and use reactions on each activity to see who is up for Saturday's dinner.

💬

Chat, reactions and comments

A trip chat that lives next to the plan, plus reactions and comments on individual activities, so decisions stay attached to the thing being decided.

💸

Expenses and settle up

Even or custom splits, per-person balances, and a settle-up view. Hoku does the math; you pay each other however you already do.

✈️

Flights and stays on the plan

Add the flights and hotels you booked anywhere to the right day, so everyone can see who lands when. On iPhone, a home and lock-screen widget counts down to the trip.

📩

Bookings from your inbox

On Premium, connect Gmail and Hoku scans it for hotel, flight and tour confirmations, then files them on the right day.

🧭

Discover

Tours and experiences from Viator, plus sights and restaurants, filtered to where your group will be.

🤖

Trip Genie

On Premium, generate a first-draft itinerary, then ask questions like "what's walkable from the hotel on Sunday morning?" without leaving the trip.

Share and export

Publish a trip so friends outside the group can follow along, or, on Premium, export the full plan as a PDF for the one relative who wants it printed.

FAQ

Questions groups ask before the first trip.

Is Hoku free for group trips?

Yes. The free plan includes 2 active trips with up to 10 members each, the shared itinerary, RSVPs, chat, expenses and Discover. Premium is $4.99 a month or $70 a year and adds up to 20 active trips, up to 100 members per trip, Gmail booking import, AI planning with Trip Genie, PDF export and no ads.

Do my friends need the app to join the trip?

They need a Hoku account, but it is free and works in a browser at app.hoku.travel as well as on iOS and Android. The invite link opens a preview of the trip first, so people see what they are joining before they sign up.

How many people can plan one trip together?

Up to 10 members per trip on the free plan and up to 100 on Premium. Everyone can add activities, comment, react and log expenses.

How does splitting costs work?

Anyone logs what they paid and picks who it was for. Hoku splits it evenly or by custom shares, keeps a running balance per person and shows the fewest payments needed to settle up. It does not move money; you pay each other however you normally would.

Can I book flights and hotels in Hoku?

No. Hoku is the plan, not the booking site. Book flights and hotels wherever you normally do, then add them to the itinerary so the group can see who lands when. On Premium you can connect Gmail and Hoku scans it for booking confirmations and files them on the right days.

What if people drop out or join late?

RSVPs are per trip (in, maybe or can't go), so a late joiner just taps I'm in and the headcount updates. Reactions and comments on each activity show who is keen on which plan. Expenses split among the people you chose for each cost, so a dropout does not break the math.

Create the trip in a minute, drop the link, and watch the "I'm in"s come back.
